For centuries, the cardinal has been used to represent a loved one who has passed away and as a messenger from Heaven. The red of the cardinal is a reminder of the blood of Christ, who died so that we can have eternal life. Below are some stories from people who believe that cardinals who visited them carried messages from Heaven.
The Birthday Visitor
Every year on Jamie’s birthday, a cardinal would come to his window. As a child, he would rush to see it, always finding it waiting for him. His father initially thought it was a random occurrence, often saying “birds are so unpredictable!” However, the cardinal’s consistent visits on his birthday couldn’t be ignored.
The true meaning behind these visits became clear on his 16th birthday. While exploring old family albums, he discovered photos of his grandmother, whom he’d never met, surrounded by cardinal figurines. Intrigues, his mother shared a story that he had never heard. She explained that his grandmother believed her late husband would visit her in the form of a cardinal. This belief sparked her love for cardinal figurines. His mother felt certain that the yearly cardinal visits were from my grandmother, ensuring she remained a presence in his life.
Together, they retrieved one of the cherished figurines from the attic, which I have kept in my room ever since. Now in his 50s, it remains a treasured keepsake, a symbol of love and connection. And yes, he still gets a visitor from a cardinal every year on his birthday.
The Lost Hiker
Donna had planned a straightforward hike, following a loop on the map. However, she strayed off the path to try and find a waterfall. As the sun began to set, she started to get nervous. She was lost and facing the reality of spending the night outdoors. After hours of walking, she stopped to think about the next steps. Just then, a cardinal landed nearby, persistently looking at her and hopping in a specific direction.
Despite her initial skepticism, after 15 minutes, she decided to follow its lead. Remarkably, the bird seemed to guide her, occasionally checking if she was following behind. Eventually, she spotted the trail. Once she was back on track, the cardinal departed. She couldn’t help but believe that a departed loved one sent the bird to ensure her safety.
The Song
The first thing you need to understand about Louis is that his music was everything. It was the channel that allowed him to pour out my emotions, fears, and dreams. But when his wife passed away, he felt like a part of him died too. He couldn’t play the piano anymore. Every time he tried, his fingers felt cold and unresponsive. Mornings were the hardest. Waking up to a world without her laughter, her wisdom, her presence. It was one particularly silent morning that he began to hear a sweet, unfamiliar tune. He rushed to the window and saw a cardinal perched on a branch, its song filling the air with the melody. Something inside him stirred. He was captivated, not just by the bird’s tune, but by the feeling that this moment helped significance beyond my understanding. He rushed over to his piano, he let my fingers dance over the keys, trying to capture the essence of the song. Hours passed, and it felt like part of him was brought back to life. He believed, with every fiber of his being, that the song was a gift. A message from his wife, letting him know that while she might be gone, her love would always find a way to reach him. That cardinal reignited his passion, reminding him that inspiration could be found even in the depths of our greatest sorrows.
The Letter
The days after dad’s funeral were some of the hardest Jessica has ever lived through. Her mom was completely devastated, and they did their best to support each other. One morning, she was determined to keep herself busy, so she decided to tackle the disastrous garage. It was a complete mess, which was quite usual for her dad. Somehow, he always knew where everything was. But it needed to be organized for her mom. As she started to sort through old boxes, she saw something fly into the garage. When she looked up, she saw a cardinal. She was always terrified of birds, so she panicked. She grabbed a broom and began to swing at it. As she waved it around, she knocked over an old box that was hidden in the corner. The bird flew away, which gave her a chance to examine what was inside. She opened it and found a sealed envelope addressed to her mom. She went inside the house and gave it to her. My mom opened it, and she could tell she was about to cry. She asked her what it was, and she told her it was a letter from her dad. Her mom had never seen it before. He must have written it when they had first started dating and never sent it to her. Jessica read the letter. It spoke of his admiration for her mom, his dreams of their future together, and how he felt like the luckiest man to have her by his side. He spoke about their future children and how he would love them with every fiber of his being. Jessica started to cry, too, as she imagined her dad, so full of hope and love, writing this letter. A few weeks later, her mom framed the letter and put it by her bedside. This lets her read it whenever she wants to remember him. They truly believe the cardinal was a sign from her father. In addition, Jessica would like to formally apologize to her dad for attacking the bird he sent to them.
