A “Godwink” is an event or personal experience, often identified as coincidence, so astonishing that is seen as a sign of divine intervention, especially when perceived as the answer to a prayer. This term was coined by Squire Rushnell, an American author and inspirational speaker.  

While these moments are called “GodWinks”, they can also be referred to as “Messages from Heaven”. A few months ago, we wrote a blog post about these experiences. No matter what we call them, we need to thank God for them. These are the moments when He grants us comfort and shows His great love for us, especially when we need it most.

I experienced a Godwink the other day. Despite the cold weather, I decided to go on a walk. It had been a long day at work and I wanted to get some fresh air before I started dinner. It was lightly snowing (even though it is currently March) but I was determined to get outside! I put on my tennis shoes, and I walked out the door.

As I started my walk, I couldn’t help but think about my grandpa. He passed when I was younger, but I still find myself missing his presence even after all these years. I decided to stop at the bridge near my house and take a moment and pray for him. I continued my walk and looped back towards my house. When I passed over the bridge again, I saw a butterfly on the railing.

My family always says that when you see a butterfly, it is grandpa stopping by to say hello! I thought that it must have been a coincidence. However, winter has just ended, and it should be weeks before we start to see butterflies again.

I took this as a sign that he was watching over me and letting me know that he missed me too!

If you experience these types of messages, look heavenward and say, “God, I know that was You! Thank YOU!”
