What do we think of when we see the word sacred? Do we use the word to describe a thing or an idea that has meaning to us? Is it a relationship that we hold close to us and consider its significance sacred? Maybe it is an item that represents something greater such as a Holy Rosary given as a gift from someone special. Describing a relationship as sacred grants it a status that is beyond a simple bond or an item is sacred because it represents something greater than the item itself, a memory. Sacredness directs us to those things related to God and to God’s love. This love for us is found in the Sacred Heart of Jesus and for Catholics makes June more than just the beginning of summer.
Love is what the heart symbolizes, and the Sacred Heart of Jesus is a symbol of Jesus’ intense love of humanity. This love transcends the brutality of His suffering and death on the cross. The Sacred Heart is a symbol of suffering and charity. He suffered for our freedom from death, and He showed us through this ordeal, how much the Father genuinely loves us. When looking at the image of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, how can we not be drawn by the symbol of His sacrifice and love. Christ appeared in this way to assure us of not only the Father’s love for us but to remind us that death has no power over us if we believe.
See in the Sacred Heart of Jesus the truth of what awaits those who believe. Our journey comes with pain and sorrow, but through faith, the light always shines through. Christ is the light in the darkness and the way to paradise is through Him.
God Bless.
